Autism Acceptance Month 2024

April is Autism Acceptance Month!

Join us in spreading awareness and acceptance of autism at WCU.

ABOUT

The Dub-C Autism Program began in 2016 with only 4 students. Now, in 2024, D-CAP serves nearly 100 students at WCU! Our student-driven program with incredible support across campus is always striving for inclusivity and acceptance of the autistic population through collaborations, events, and more.

As April is Autism Acceptance Month, we hope you can join us in celebrating the autism community and continuing to highlight the importance of inclusion this month, and always.

What is Neurodiversity?

Neurodiversity refers to the differences in the way everyone’s brains work. While brains may develop similarly, there are no two brains that function exactly alike!

The concept of neurodiversity celebrates and embraces the differences in how we all experience and process the world around us, including those who are neurodivergent and those who are neurotypical.

Why are we talking about Neurodiversity?

April is Autism Acceptance Month - it is so important to have conversations about neurodiversity not just this month, but year-round!

The first step to acceptance and inclusion is awareness. By talking and learning about Neurodiversity, we hope that you can feel more comfortable and confident in your inclusivity of neurodivergent individuals.

How can I learn more?

Speak to the experts!

One of the best ways to learn about neurodivergence and neurodiversity is to talk with the experts with lived experience. Many individuals who are neurodivergent are passionate about spreading awareness and acceptance and are great sources of knowledge on this topic.

D-CAP also offers many resources and/or trainings to those around campus who would like to learn more about neurodivergence and how to support your  neurodivergent peers.
