This secluded private home is the perfect retreat, close enough to many attractions yet far enough away to escape from it all! Whatever you do, you will treasure your visit to the beautiful and scenic Daniel Boone National Forest! This cozy home is 1,000 sq ft and has a comfy living room, 40" DIRECTV & Bluetooth Soundbar, bath with tub and shower, modern well-equipped kitchen, memory foam king bed in the master bedroom with 27" TV & DVD player, and a queen futon in the 2nd bedroom/den; a front porch overlooking the wooded hillside, a great place for watching the many birds in the yard, a side deck with propane grill, picnic table, and a large private yard with a hammock and also a fire pit for S'mores, with firewood supplied. The property sits atop a sunny ridge adjacent to the "Thrash Rock" a geological feature of historical interest. Local legend tells us this is where the ancient natives and local townsfolk threshed their grain. Prior to settlement, this area was an important visiting point for ancient nomads and was settled early 19th century. Locals say in the late 19th century this area was a busy small village on the road to Sinking Creek and the Rockcastle River. Old home foundations dot the landscape. This private home sits in the middle of our 22 acres adjoining the Daniel Boone National Forest. Newly offered as a vacation rental in 2018, we have loved living here over these last decades! Locally, London & Laurel County is host to the Redbud Ride, July 4th Red, White and Boom Fireworks Festival, World Famous Chicken Festival in September, Homecoming Festival and Thursday Night Live performances, Camp Wildcat Civil War Battle Reenactment, Archery, Cycling, Equestrian, Fishing, Golf, and so many other sports events, and throughout the year, host to many other fun activities and festivals. Drive through our beautiful Garden Town on Main Street in London-beautiful all year the summer flowers and the Christmas Lights and Parade and one-of-a-kind restaurants are great! Visit our World-Class Flea Markets for special treasures and local produce. Be sure to visit Flowers Bakery on 4th Street, their Honey Buns are baked fresh daily and are amazingly delicious (ask the cashier for the fresh-baked honeybuns-these are found in the white paper bags on the counter) and delicious breads and cakes, while in town visit Rock Bottom Soap Company for all-natural, goat milk fragrant delights, and the Scavenger Hunt where you're sure to find a special treasure! We love our Main Street restaurants, The Abbey, and Local Honey, we think you will too! Visit for a special lunch or dinner at Season's Restaurant in Corbin or the historic KFC Original Restaurant and Museum. Our Main Streets in London and Corbin are fun places to check out the local shops and there are always fun activities planned. London is a 3-bakery town, making plenty of Oreos, Teddy Grahams & other tasty treats at the private Hearthside Foods (formerly the Laurel Cookie Factory), Bimbo Factory and Flowers Foods. Visit Dogpatch Trading Post on your way out of town for a unique memento of your visit!
The Bird House at Sinking Creek is a 1000 sq. ft. one-floor secluded and private home with a king memory foam topped bed, queen futon, fully-equipped kitchen & full bath, and features a firepit with firewood, picnic table, grill, and hammock in the shade and is available for a maximum of two to four adult guests. There is a two-night minimum and NO PETS allowed. Smoking is permitted outdoors only. You will love sitting on the front porch and watching the clouds, birds and wildlife! We have seen deer, turkey, bobcats, bears, snakes, lizards, frogs, toads & turtles in the yard. We're in the woods, be aware of insects including mosquitoes, ticks & chiggers in the rugged forested terrain in spring, summer & fall.
