Deenanath Bora Central Library, Nonoi College
Nonoi College is the single higher educational institute of the greater Nonoi area. The College was established with due permission from the Gauhati University and it is playing a pivotal role for the cause of higher education in this economically backward area. Since its inception due to the efforts of some extraordinary personalities of public life, teacher and students, the college has reached the present position. At present only arts faculty has been opened, but in near future, attempt will be made to open Science and Commerce faculties also. Assamese, English, Elective Assamese, Economics, Education, Folklore, History, Geography, Political Science and Psychology subjects are in the college now. The college is providing major courses in English, Assamese, Political Science & Education. In the forthcoming years, the college authority will try to open the major courses in all other subjects. Experience of the Sr. Asstt. Professors make the teaching fruitful and as a result, the students are highly benefited. We believe in the triangular process of learning i.e. Teachers-Students-Parents.
The Chief aim of our institution is to make the student socially and academically responsible citizens of future.
About the Library:
Nonoi College is one of the premier higher educational institutions in Nagaon District, Assam. The college is located at a pollution free green area which is about 14 Km from Nagaon district Headquarter, 23 Km fromKampur Railway station , 77 Km from Kaziranga National Park and 140 Km from LGB International Airport, Guwahati. The Nonoi College, affiliated to Gauhati University was established in1985 with a view to promote higher education at Nonoi and its surrounding areas. The college has left no stone untuned to provide quality education to the students since its establishment. The Deenanath Bora Library is the central library of the college started with the establishment of the college in the year 1985. Though at the very beginning of the college, there was no separate library and functioning in a room only. After some years in 2000 a separate library is provided at ground floor. The college library was started with the gratis books. The college did not receive any library grants from UGC and other financial supportive agencies except an Amount of Two Lakhs as book grants from the State Government in 2018.Students Fee is the prime source of library budget for procuring books , periodicals and other reading -learning materials and equipment of the library.
The library practices OPEN access. Presently the library has 3807 books(as on 01.12.2022), five periodicals and four News Papers. The Library has started automation with 3.0 Version developed by INFLIBNET Centre (an Inter University Centre of UGC), Ahmedabad. The College Library is Globally connected through internet connectivity. The library has developed the infrastructure for digital section. The library has NLIST, DELNET and NDLI membership for library and information services infrastructure for scholarly content through which the users can access freely worlds authentic scholarly journals ,e-books and other e- resources. The library is managed by a Library Advisory Committee chaired by the principal of the college. Some of the best practices of the library are Open access, E-resources accessibility, CAS through print and electronic mode, OPAC and Web OPAC, online library feedback, library best reader award, Use of standard Scheme of Classification, user orientation programme etc.
