Culture Dub Review Oct 24
DBC3, originally from North Yorkshire, is back with "Messenger", a new album as exciting as it is powerful, on which we find the accomplices of the trio: the brilliant Dandy Dizzle, Nikki H and General TG on vocals, Bryn D on flute, Col J on melodica and Chris B on the trumpet, for 8 magnificent tracks sung, between Reggae Stepper and Digital Dub, followed by their versions to sway your hips without concession in session, produced on the Dub Barn Records label!
e had left them with the release of the superb opus "Brighter Skies" released in 2021, an album putting the sound of DBC3 in the spotlight, these furious and frenzied dubber rockers from Yorke, whom we immediately loved at Culture Dub for their luminous productions (read the review)!
That being said, it is indeed Yorke that the DBC3 trio comes from... Dub Barn Collective was originally founded in 2011 by Doug', Dave and Moz, who were joined by many guests during their live performance. The band began a more Electro turn in 2019 with the current trio composed of Geeky (Melodica, Bass), CJ Chi (Percussion, Mix), Col J (Visuals) accompanied by special guests and long-time collaborators: Dandy Dizzle (Vocals), Niki H (Vocals), Rich T (Guitar) and Bryn D (Flute). The Dub Barn Records label was founded in the same year and promotes Dub music in the UK and beyond!
3 years of touring and studio to deliver the album "Messenger" today! And what an album! Wow... Groovant, danceable, catchy at will... DBC3 shares its universe with us, between Digital Reggae Dub and Electro Stepper, each track is simply original, positive and once again luminous, with a dive between 90s, pop and future Dub ... On the vocal versions we find the two magnificent and talented Dandy Dizzle and Niki H, who throughout the 8 songs delight us with their voices, their way of posing, and their words (special mention to the tracks 'Wisdom' and 'World with out end' which are wonders of the genre!), joined for the track 'Day Break' by General TG! While Chris B regales us with his trumpet throughout this new opus...
The sung versions of "Messenger" are of course followed by Dub mixes made with a lot of tact and love of the console, effects boxes and other knobs, to bring the Dub to life as it should be, mixes made by Geeky and CJ Chi of DBC3, in their den The Dub Barn Studio, with the most intoxicating inspirations! An excellent album that we recommend you to discover as soon as possible because of its musicality, its originality and its positivity, with a sublime artwork made by Sarah Nollson... Magnificent!
