DayMirror Journal - Your Personal Journaling Companion
Last Updated: March 24, 2026
Your Privacy Matters: Your privacy is critically important to us. At DayMirror Journal ("we", "our", "us"), we have a few fundamental principles:
We are thoughtful about the personal information we ask you to provide and collect about you.
We store personal information for only as long as we have a reason to keep it.
We aim for full transparency on how we gather, use, and share your personal information.
Journaling is deeply personal, and ensuring your entries remain purely yours is our top priority.
Below is our Privacy Policy, which clarifies these principles and explains how we collect, use, and share information about you, along with the choices you have. This policy applies to the DayMirror Journal mobile application and related services.
Note: This Privacy Policy is adapted from the Automattic Privacy Policy, available under a Creative Commons Sharealike license.
We only collect information about you if we have a reason to do so—for example, to provide our Services, to communicate with you, or to make our Services better.
The information we collect depends on whether you create an account or use the app offline.
For Users Without an Account (Local/Offline Users) If you use DayMirror Journal without creating an account:
Your Journal Entries: Your entries, photos, and mood data are stored locally on your device. We do not have access to them.
Google Drive Backups: If you choose to enable Google Drive backups, your data is securely backed up to your personal Google Drive. We do not have access to these backups or any other files in your Google Drive.
No Personal Details: We do NOT collect your email address, password, or any personally identifiable information.
For Users With an Account (Cloud Sync Users) If you register for an account to sync your journal across devices:
Account Information: We collect basic account information including your email address and a password for authentication.
Your Journal Entries: Your entries are synced securely using Google Cloud servers (Firebase) so you can access them across devices. Your data is kept private and accessible only through your authenticated account.
Communications with Us: You may also provide us with information when you communicate with us about a support question or feedback via email.
We also collect some technical and usage information automatically to help us improve app performance, stability, and user experience. We use Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics to collect:
Device and Log Information: Device model, operating system version, and device identifiers (such as Firebase Instance IDs).
Usage Information: How often you use the app, features you interact with, and general interaction patterns.
Crash & Performance Data: Crash logs, error reports, and performance metrics (e.g., load times, failed operations).
Personal Data Exclusion: This collected data is technical and anonymized. It does NOT include your journal content, email address, password, or direct personal identifiers.
We use the information we collect to:
Provide our Services: Including essential app functionality, maintaining user accounts (if applicable), and facilitating Google Drive backups.
Troubleshoot and Improve: Fix bugs, improve app performance, and analyze usage to enhance features.
Communicate with You: Respond to your support requests, feedback, or inquiries.
Ensure Security: Detect, investigate, and help prevent security incidents and unauthorized access.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data or journal entries to third parties or data brokers.
We share information about you in very limited circumstances, and with appropriate safeguards:
Third-Party Vendors: We use trusted third-party services that help us provide our Services, such as Google Cloud / Firebase (for authentication, cloud storage, analytics, and crash reporting) and Google Drive (if you authorize backups). Their use of data is governed by Google's privacy policies and strong security standards.
Legal and Regulatory Obligations: We may disclose information about you if we believe in good faith that such disclosure is necessary to comply with relevant laws, enforceable legal processes, or to protect the rights and property of DayMirror Journal, our users, or the public.
While no online service is 100% secure, we work very hard to protect information about you against unauthorized access, use, alteration, or destruction.
Local Users: Data remains entirely under the security of your own device and personal Google Drive.
Account Users: Account data and synced entries are stored securely using Google Cloud infrastructure with modern security practices.
We generally discard information about you when it's no longer needed for the purposes for which we collect and use it. For example, technical logs are kept only for a limited period to analyze performance and fix issues.
For Account Users: When you request to delete your account, we delete your journal entries, their attachments, and your account data from our servers.
You have several choices regarding your information:
Limit Information Provided: You can choose to use the app entirely offline without creating an account.
Delete Your Account: Account users can request deletion of their account and associated data. To do so, visit our Account Deletion Page.
Disconnect Google Drive: You can revoke DayMirror Journal's access to your Google Drive at any time from your Google Account settings.
Delete the App: You can stop all collection of information by uninstalling the app. Please note that if you are a local user, uninstalling the app will delete your entries permanently unless you have backed them up.
Our Services are not directed to children, and children under 13 years of age are not eligible to use our Services. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take steps to remove that information.
We may change this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last Updated" date at the top will reflect the latest revision. Your continued use of DayMirror Journal after a change to our Privacy Policy will be subject to the updated policy.
