During my EDUC 350 field experience at Webber Middle School, I worked with Liz Broste, my mentor teacher, in her International Foods and Interior Design Exploration classes. Twice a week, I worked with 8th-grade students, supporting their learning and creativity based on the focus of each class period. This experience allowed me to deepen my understanding of classroom management strategies and the importance of building strong, meaningful relationships with students.
Through observing and assisting in these two diverse classes, I gained insight into how different learning environments can be approached based on the needs of the students and the content being taught. I also learned how to adapt and accommodate students with varying abilities, as there were students with various disabilities in both classes. This hands-on experience highlighted the importance of flexibility, patience, and intentional planning to create an inclusive and supportive classroom for all learners. Overall, my time at Webber Middle School has strengthened my teaching skills and prepared me to better meet the diverse needs of my future students.
