Collaborate actively with artists, developers, and other team members to integrate level designs seamlessly, contributing to the game’s overall polish and player satisfaction.
RATIONAL DESIGN
I have learned to design levels using rational design principles, effectively mixing mechanics to create engaging experiences. I focus on crafting levels with strong onboarding, ensuring a smooth learning curve while introducing new mechanics in an intuitive and rewarding way.
A/B TESTS
We used A/B testing to research new mechanics, comparing different versions to analyze their impact on player engagement. An A/B test involves splitting players into groups, where one experiences the new mechanic while the other continues with the existing version. Additionally, we always kept a backup version to track if changes in retention were due to the new mechanic or external factors, ensuring more accurate insights.
MARKET RESEARCH
Understanding the importance of market research is key to identifying trends, player preferences, and industry shifts. Analyzing what is growing or declining helps in making informed design decisions, ensuring that mechanics, monetization strategies, and overall game direction align with current market demands.
WORK WITH KPI
We worked with KPI principles, approaching prototypes with specific retention goals: 45% on Day 1, 25% on Day 7, and 10% on Day 30. Additionally, we aimed for a Cost Per Install (CPI) of less than $2 in the U.S. to ensure both engagement and cost-effective user acquisition. These metrics helped us evaluate a game's viability and refine the design to improve player retention and market performance.
Their guidance not only helped me develop a deeper understanding of design principles and advanced workflows but also taught me best practices to enhance efficiency and quality, enabling me to elevate my own work to a professional standard.
I had the privilege of working alongside a highly talented and experienced team with years of expertise in the gaming industry, which significantly contributed to my growth as a designer.
I also take part in events such as the ENTI Career Fair, where I engage with students by providing guidance about the gaming industry, helping them to understand the various opportunities available in this dynamic field.
