David's Dynasty

10-27-17

Dear Parents:

As stated in my opening of the year newsletter (posted on the CK website music page) the first and second graders will be participating in the Christ the King Christmas Program. The program will be held on Tuesday, December 12th at 7:00 PM and this year our performance will be at the Notre Dame Performing Arts Center.

We will be presenting the musical, David’s Dynasty. It is about a group of bearded shepherds (think Duck Dynasty) who learn the meaning of being part of the royal dynasty that will one day produce a new king for their people. There are only seven speaking parts (along with several non-speaking parts). Your child has had the chance to listen and silently read along with a recording of the play part. Next week (Tuesday, October 31st and Wednesday, November 1st) we will be holding auditions (2nd graders only) in class for those interested in playing a part. Ms. Zochoswski, Miss Raab, Mrs. Conley and myself will be judging students on several factors including: word pronunciation, rhythm flow of words, clarity and volume level of speaking, reading vs acting (mannerisms and actions), stage presence, etc. Students are allowed to try-out for more than one part and the non-speaking parts (such as Mary, Joseph, extra shepherds, etc.) will be chosen from those who try out for a speaking part but don’t get one. While we (Ms. Zochowski, Miss Raab and I) work with the actors during lunch/recess time we, ask that if your child is chosen, you work with him/her to learn and memorize their lines at home as well. We will make certain that all actors have costumes so you do not need to worry about that.

By clicking on the link below you can access a copy of the play script. Your child can also listen and/or practice reading along with the David's Dynasty play audio below.

If you have questions I can be reached at lkaemming@cktoledo.org where I'll do my best to get back to you as soon as possible.

Mrs. Kaemming

The audio immediately below contains only the play portion.

David's Dynasty Play Script (in Google Slide form) Once opened in Google Slides you can then download this as a pdf or PowerPoint. Or here is a David's Dynasty Script (in pdf only).

Song 1 - David's Dynasty

There’s a sleepy little town in Judah land, south of old Jerusalem.

It’s where we work and play, where we eat and where we pray.

Home, sweet home is Bethlehem.

And God’s been doing something here for generations,

Raising up a family with great expectations.

We are David’s dynasty, a royal kind of legacy.

And we’re living for the day our King will come to rule and reign.

Hey, hey, hey.

Got a lot of history.

Someday all the world will see how God will save the day when He will come to rule and reign.

Hey, hey, hey. We’re David’s dynasty.

Here’s where David was anointed king.

Here is where he lived and breathed.

This little town we love, oh, it’s sacred ground to us, where God grew our fam’ly tree.

Blessed be the tie that binds our hearts together, one for all and all for one, now and forever.

We’re David’s dynasty. We’re David’s dynasty.

Hey, hey, hey. We’re David’s dynasty.

03 Bethle-Boring.mp3

Song 2 - Bethle-Boring

Dry and crusty crust of bread: That’s our life in Bethlehem.

Ev’ry day is like the last. Future looks just like the past.

Ev’ry week feels like a year. We need some excitement here.

Bethle no fun. Bethle ho, hum.

No one ever even stops to visit anymore.

Bethle boring. Bethle-snoring.

That’s our life in good old Bethlehem.

Wish that something epic would happen to us in the hood.

More than sheep would flock to town once they hear of our renown.

Guess we ‘re not that kind of spot. Sheep and shepherds, all we’ve got.

Bethle no fun. Bethle ho, hum.

No one ever even stops to visit anymore.

Bethle boring. Bethle-snoring.

That’s our life in good old Bethlehem.

There could be beneath our noses something coming I suppose is awesome, thrilling, and exposes Bethlehem to all the world!

(spoken by Miss Ketura) Oh, who are we kidding?

Bethle no fun. Bethle ho, hum.

No one ever even stops to visit anymore.

Bethle boring. Bethle-snoring.

That’s our life in good old Bethlehem.

That’s our life in good old Bethlehem.

05 Somebody's Coming.mp3

Song 3 - Somebody's Counting

Do do do do do do do. Do do do do do do do. Do do do do do do do do.

I’m just one among the millions from Beersheba up to Dan,

But the Romans want my number so they know right where I am.

And if I’m among the missing when the tax collector shows,

You can bet your bottom shekel the government will know.

‘Cause somebody’s counting on me. Somebody’s counting on me.

Somebody's gotta pay for what ol’ Caesar needs,

So somebody’s counting on me.

From Abraham came many. Look at how we’ve multiplied.

You’re a value added resource when you’re an Israelite.

If Quirinius decrees it, and if Herod wants his cut,

Well, I got a premonition that my taxes will go up.

‘Cause somebody’s counting on me. Somebody’s counting on me.

No matter what the bill is, I won’t disagree,

‘Cause somebody’s counting on me.

And if you love to travel, your hometown’s all prepared.

So saddle up your donkey; we’ll see you there.

Somebody's counting on you. Somebody's counting on you.

You think you’re just a number? The census is the proof.

Somebody's counting on you.

Do do do do do do do. Do do do do do do do do.

Do do do do do do do. Do do do do do do do. Do do do do do do do do.

07 Listen to the Oldies.mp3

Song 4 - Listen to the Oldies

Listen, listen, listen to the oldies.

Listen, listen, listen to the oldies.

Listen, listen, listen to the oldies.

Listen, listen, listen to the oldies.

They might seem a little bit old fashioned.

You might think they’re kind of out of touch.

But they’ve got a lot of information, tellin’ who we are and where we’re from.

They even talk about the future, how it’s all gonna be unfolding.

So we’d better pay attention and keep list’nin’ to the oldies.

Stacks of stories, history, loads of lessons for you and me.

Words of wisdom and prophesy, so listen, listen,

Listen to the oldies.

Listen, listen, listen to the oldies.

Listen, listen, listen to the oldies.

Sure, the new has got a lot to offer, but the old will show us wrong from right.

What the Lord has said is never changing.

It’s all written down in black and white.

So I will treat it like a treasure, holding tight to what God has told me.

I’ll stay on the path I should be just by list’nin’ to the oldies.

Stacks of stories, history, loads of lessons for you and me.

Words of wisdom and prophecy,

So listen, listen,

Listen to the oldies.

Listen, listen, listen to the oldies.

Listen, listen, listen to the oldies.

Listen, listen, listen to the oldies.

Listen, listen,

listen to the stacks of stories, history, loads of lessons for you and me.

Words of wisdom and prophecy,

So listen, listen, listen to the oldies.

Listen, listen, listen to the oldies.

Listen, listen, listen to the oldies.

Listen, listen, listen to the oldies.

10 Angel Jam.mp3

Song 5 - Angel Jam

All of heaven, turn up the volume.

Tonight’s the night we’re gonna make some noise.

Light the sky up. Every star’s on fire.

Shine so bright; this is what we’ve waited for.

Oh, good news! Oh. This boy! Oh, good news! Oh, great joy!

Gloria a-a-a-a!

Glory to God! Glory in the highest!

Gloria a-a-a-a!

Sing it again, sing glory!

Gloria a-a-a-a!

Glory to God! Glory in the highest!

Gloria a-a-a-a!

Sing it again, sing Gloria!

Run and find Him. You gotta see this:

Immanuel, heaven come to earth!

God Himself is sleeping in a stable.

Hope is here. Come to Him and celebrate.

Oh, good news! Oh. This boy! Oh, good news! Oh, great joy!

Gloria a-a-a-a!

Glory to God! Glory in the highest!

Gloria a-a-a-a!

Sing it again, sing glory!

Gloria a-a-a-a!

Glory to God! Glory in the highest!

Gloria a-a-a-a!

Sing it again, sing Gloria!

Sing it. Sing it. Sing it again, now.

Sing it. Sing it. Sing it again, now.

Sing it. Sing it. Sing it again, now.

Sing it. Sing it. Sing it again.

Gloria a-a-a-a!

Glory to God! Glory in the highest!

Gloria a-a-a-a!

Sing it again, sing glory!

Gloria a-a-a-a!

Glory to God! Glory in the highest!

Gloria a-a-a-a!

Sing it again, sing gloria!

12 He Is God.mp3

Song 6 - He is God

Shepherds in the field were keeping watch o’er flocks by night.

An angel of the Lord appeared, and they were filled with fright.

The angel said, “Fear not. Behold: I bring you news of joy.

For unto you is born a Child, no ordinary boy.”

He is God. He is God. A gift of love from heaven, He is God.

He is God. He is God. A Holy Child named Jesus, He is God.

Lying in a manger, just how the angels said, they found the Baby sleeping and they knelt before His bed.

Then they went to tell about the birthday of their Lord.

And Jesus was their promise the world was waiting for.

He is God. He is God. A gift of love from heaven, He is God.

He is God. He is God. A Holy Child named Jesus, He is God.

Emmanuel, now with us, He came to save us from our sins.

Give all praise to Jesus and worship Him.

Emmanuel, now with us, He came to save us from our sins.

Give all praise to Jesus and worship Him.

He is God. He is God. A gift of love from heaven, He is God.

He is God. He is God. A Holy Child named Jesus, He is God.

A Holy Child named Jesus, He is God.

14 Born to be the Savior.mp3

Song 7 - Born to be the Savior

Good news of joy in the Bethlehem sky,

A chorus resounding as angels on high

Sing, “Glory to God! Glory to God! Peace to men!”

Hope has arrived to defeat all despair. The song of salvation is filling the air.

Sing, “Glory to God! Glory to God! Peace to men!

Born to be the Savior, Jesus has come.

Born to heal the nations, the wonderful One who will rescue and ransom, redeem and restore.

Hallelujah! Jesus is Born to be the Savior.

Those in the dark will behold a great light.

The dawn of redemption is breaking the night.

Sing, “Glory to God! Glory to God! Peace to men!”

Born to be the Savior, Jesus has come.

Born to heal the nations, the wonderful One

Who will rescue and ransom, redeem and restore.

Hallelujah! Jesus is Born to be the Savior.

Born to be the Savior, Jesus has come.

Born to heal the nations, the wonderful One

Who will rescue and ransom, redeem and restore.

Hallelujah! Jesus is Born to be the Savior, to be the Savior.

16 The King is on the Way.mp3

Song 8 - The King is on the Way

The prophets spoke about the coming of the Lord.

Swing wide the ancient gates and open up the doors.

The King is on the way.

We know the story of His birth in Bethlehem,

But now we’re waiting for the day He comes again.

The King is on the way.

The King is on the way.

Love will save the day.

And all will see the glory,

His glory on display.

The King is on the way.

So let the faithful always keep a watchful eyes

‘Cause no one knows when he will split the eastern sky

The King is on the way.

The King is on the way.

Love will save the day.

And all will see the glory,

His glory on display.

The King is on the way.

Let ev’ry heart get ready, get ready,

Let ev’ry heart get ready, get ready for the King is on the way.

Love will save the day.

And all will see the glory,

His glory on display.

The King is on the way.

The King is on the way.
