My name is David Pires, and I am a PhD candidate at the University of Évora. I conduct my research within the Nematology laboratories of the National Institute for Agricultural and Veterinary Research (INIAV, I.P.) and the Mediterranean Institute for Agriculture, Environment and Development (MED). My research focuses on the biological control of the pinewood nematode, Bursaphelenchus xylophilus, using antagonistic fungi. Beyond the lab, I collaborate with De La Salle University's Plant and Soil Health Research Unit and am a co-founder of Active Plant Nematologists. I am also deeply committed to extension outreach and science communication, working to bridge the gap between Nematology research and the public.
