Took a little bit of time and effort, but here it is, PetronixConsoleOS 5.0 Beta 4! So, what's new?
New Features and Stuff:
Control Panel
Well, something that I think should have already been there a long time ago but hasn't been for some reason is finally here, the Control Panel! It's a bit... bare bones at the moment. So, you can't really do much in it. Tho, i'll finish it entirely in Beta 5! Also, if you haven't noticed already, the Control Panel's icon is the exact same one from PetronixConsoleOS 2.0.
New "Morning Under A Tree" Wallpaper
Okay, maybe not really that exciting, just a new wallpaper. Specifically, one of my "sample" pictures (click here if you want to see them). But hey, at least something!
"Close Start Menu" button
Well, a nice little button in the Start Menu! Now you don't have to open the Quick Menu just to close that thing! Tho, you still can if you want to, but that button is there to just simplify things a bit.
PetronixConsoleOS Store (PCOSStore):
Okay, the PetronixConsoleOS Store has a little more going on (or maybe a lot)!
First off, the Home screen. The first thing that probably caught your attention is the text saying that PCOSStore is in it's experimental stage and that the Colecto-point (CP) system is in the works and that you get 100 CPs for free.
You may or may not have noticed that there is no "Aero3D" button in the side from Beta 3 (if you've ever used or tried it). That's because Aero3D is primarily a cosmetic framework, so it more or less is just personalization. Instead of the "Aero3D" button in the home screen, it's been moved to the "Personalization" category and split into two subcategories, "Aero3D Scene" and "Aero3D Texture". Now, Aero3D Scene and Texture are in the works, but they're not available for use yet.
Another thing you may have also noticed is the "See A List Of All The Items You Bought So Far" button. This leads to a page where the "PCOSStore_PurchasedItems" variable list is shown, along with the text on explaining what that list is and why it exists.
Also, there are sounds! Only two sounds, when you select and when you go back. They're short and nice sounds, I guess.
Now, for the buttons on the top-right corner. The Close and Back buttons have been there since Beta 3, but there's also now a Home button, which just brings you back to the Home page. So, basically, the Close button closes the PCOSStore, the Back button moves to the previous page and the Home button just moves you back to the Home page. Pretty easy, pretty self-explanatory.
Okay, so, you've probably already read that you get 100 CPs for free, but, can you use them? Well, yes, actually. In the "Music" category, there are two Petronix Music songs; Ocarinalina and Happy Fun Times, each for 25 CPs. And you can buy "Snowy Day" wallpaper in the "Wallpapers" subcategory that's under the "Personalization" category for 15 CPs. Yeah... only three things. But hey, to be fair, PCOSStore did get a LOT MORE FUNCTIONALITY compared to Beta 3, so that's at least something! And, you don't need to necessarily buy all of these things, but you can if you want to. You can buy them now. You can buy them later. You don't have to buy anything. But, they're available for purchase.
Last thing, if you haven't noticed already, the shortcut to the PCOSStore in the Start Menu has been renamed from "PCOSStore" to "PetronixConsoleOS Store".
Changes in the GUI and the OS in general:
Quick Menu
The Quick Menu got changed. Not by a lot, though. You may not generally notice it, but putting it side by side, you can really tell that the Beta 4 select assets' text has been a bit bolded.
But, the bold text isn't the only change! When you turn on the Quick Menu (by obviously clicking the wallpaper/background in the desktop), instead of just appearing, it expands.
Specifically, the Quick Menu is set to "size 0" and is hidden when it's turned off. When you turn it on, it showes itself and expands from "size 0" to "size 100". Not really sure how to explain it entirely, but you'll understand when you see it for yourself.
Start Menu
The same "Quick Menu Text Boldness" treatment got the options in the Start Menu! And also, the "Run" option has been renamed to "Run (run.exe)" as a little nod to the previous versions of PetronixConsoleOS.
Run (run.exe)
Aside from the "Run"-to-"Run (run.exe)" change in the Start Menu, Run got a bit more functionality. First of all, there are two new commands; "store" and "exitrun". The "store" command opens up the PetronixConsoleOS Store and the "exitrun" command basically just closes Run.
Second of all, if you type in a wrong command, misspell a command on accident or on purpose, or just press the Enter key or click the check mark without writing anything, Run will inform you that whatever of these three things just specified you did is "not a valid command".
And, third of all, Run automatically closes when you enter a valid command instead of just sometimes still running even when a valid command is entered for some reason.
MP3 Player
The MP3 Player also got a bit of a change! Well, more or less the buttons did. First of all, new button! Specifically, the "Back To Song Menu" button, which, surprise surprise, moves to the home menu of MP3 Player, which is actually called "Song Menu" because you literally choose what song to play from a menu.
Another thing is that the buttons have been redesigned, and... Okay, they may look a little flat or something like that, but no worries, I am planning to redesign them again (unless if y'all don't have a problem with this current redesign and it just works out fine).
Default Wallpaper ("Harmony")
The default wallpaper has been changed a bit. Nothing too crazy, just a little change I felt was necessary.
Bug Fixes:
1. In the "Bubbles" screensaver, there was a bug where if you started the screensaver and then immediately stopped it that bubbles still came out. If you've noticed that this is the exact same bug that was fixed in Beta 3, note that the same bug still somehow occured to others, as far as I was informed. I fixed the bug and tried literally everything to see if it would occur again, and now I can finally confirm that the bug is officially done for.
2. During the shutdown sequence, there was a bug where you could open the Quick Menu and use it normally when generally not supposed to. This has been fixed.
And folks, that is all... Here is the download and enjoy the ride, I guess!
