David Kunst

Welcome to my Website! I am an economist with a passionate yet analytical approach to policy relevant questions. My PhD research at the Department of Economics at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and the Tinbergen Institute focused on the impact of technological change, globalization and labor market institutions on labor markets and the future of work, and was supervised by Remco Oostendorp and Peter Lanjouw.

During my PhD, I have benefited from research visits at IFPRI and Harvard University, and from conducting field research in Eldoret, Kenya. I have also worked as a consultant for the ILO. Before my PhD, I studied Economics, Political Science and Romance Studies in Tübingen and Toulouse, and was supported by the German National Academic Foundation.

Next to academic research, I have a keen interest in public policy- and since October 2019, I work in DG EMPL at the European Commission, supporting the Commission's work on lifelong learning and the upskilling and reskilling of workers impacted by disruptive changes in labor demand as a Policy Officer for Evidence & Analysis.
