I love tinkering in the garage, inventing and building with Wood, Metal and electronics. Landscape design, Building and working with my son's in my garage that is setup like a Makerspace with power tool stations, plenty of lights and power outlets and just about any tool required to either complete a furniture project, repair or rebuild a mountain bike or overhaul a car engine.
Hiking and camping with my scout troop, Mounting biking with my son's and relaxing in a hammock enjoying a good Sci Fi book and the sunset.
I use a mix of old and new technology, I currently run a AMD Phenom II with 3 monitors 20 gb ram running Linux. Office is a bit of an Ikea flashback to the 2000's complete with solid glass top desks on Ikea birch sawhorses, various robotics builds displayed on shelves and backpacking gear stored in the closet.
Yes I enjoy exploring new areas of software and hardware, I see this as a hobby as well as part of my lifelong learner mindset. I explore Arduino projects and teach myself the skills I need along the way. I am not afraid to fail and iterate on my creations. I have even taught and helped one of my boys with a complicated science fair project using an Arduino and servos. I have built a few robots using Raspberry Pies and Arduinos and learned how to get them to perform tasks, interact and navigate around the house how I intended. Currently I am exploring low power Raspberry Pies and self built battery packs in very compact packaging, this will end up being a self contained wifi enabled offline internet portal for sharing of documents, photos, music, videos and other survival and scout skills training resources along with a centralized caching messaging service for use in remote locations or internet unavailability.
