Artistic Style, Themes, & Inspiration
David Wiesner's work is primarily done in watercolor and gouache. Much of his work features nature and infuses these natural elements with imaginative twists. David Wiesner explores elements of surrealism in his illustrations with these dreamlike illustrations, which spark curiosity in his readers. David Wiesner also seems to take inspiration from the ideas of alternate realities, changes in scale, and worlds-within-worlds.
