Extracurricular Activities: Discuss your hobbies, achievements, and demonstrate your character.
Academic Prowess: Tackle subject-specific questions.
Brain Teasers: Approach unique questions that test your creativity and thought process.
The 11 Plus interview interview is tailored for children, usually aged ten or eleven, who are undergoing interviews as part of some schools' selection procedures. These interviews aim to assess the child’s confidence, social skills, and eagerness to join the school. Often, children are requested to bring along a personal item or their favourite piece of work from Year 6 to discuss. Some schools opt for group interviews to evaluate the children's teamwork and social skills.
Essential social cues such as handshaking, maintaining eye contact, and waiting to be seated until invited are emphasised. Children are likely to be asked why they wish to attend the school, and an informed response about the school’s history and achievements is advantageous. The conversation may also revolve around favourite subjects, extracurricular interests, and accomplishments in areas like sports and music.
Interviews are generally conducted in an informal, conversational manner, although some questions might be pre-prepared. Children are expected to respond in detail, demonstrating enthusiasm and confidence. Typical questions include reasons for choosing the school, hobbies, interests, favourite and least favourite subjects, activities on a typical Saturday afternoon, favourite authors, and admired historical figures. The focus is on maintaining a detailed and engaging conversation.
