How to Make a Gothic Gauntlet with David Guyton's Template?
Here are the steps to make a Gothic gauntlet with David Guyton's template:
Cut out the template pieces from the steel and brass sheets using scissors or tin snips. You can use steel for the main parts of the gauntlet and brass for the accents. Make sure to leave some extra material around the edges for bending and shaping.
Sand the edges of the pieces with 220 grit sandpaper to remove any burrs and sharp edges.
Bend and shape the pieces using a hammer and anvil. Follow the curves and angles of the template as closely as possible. You can use a masonry chisel to create flutes and grooves on the knuckles and fingers.
Dome the pieces using a dapping piece and finishing hammer. This will give them a more rounded and realistic look. You can also use a ball-peen hammer to create dimples and textures on the surface.
Drill holes on the pieces where indicated by the template. These holes are for attaching the pieces together with rivets.
