The Dragon Within follows the lives of two weredragons: Nicole and Nathan. Through fate alone, these two human-dragon hybrids must confront evils that threaten them, their friends, and the weredragon community as a whole. Follow them as they navigate the complex and changing world around them, with only their love to keep them together.

The son of a weredragon father and a human mother, Nathan grew up outside the world of the weredragons. His father, Brian, abandoned his weredragon family before Nathan's birth to pursue a life amid the hustle and bustle of New York City. Though Brian hoped to one day guide his young son through his first transformation, he died a mysterious death when Nathan was only six years old. Left alone with his mother, Marjorie, Nathan grew up unaware of his lineage, but the beast within him was desperate to escape by any means necessary, even if it meant inflicting upon him a horrific illness from which there was no reprieve.
It was by chance that Nathan discovered his weredragon identity when a hit-and-run triggered his first turning at the age of 18. Free from his ailments, Nathan was empowered to embrace his new persona. But little did he know that his golden scales would make him a target for those who wished to use him for their nefarious means. Together with his soulmate, Nicole, Nathan strives to write the wrongs committed by the worst of his kind and to maintain the fragile peace between weredragons and humans.

Born on the stroke of midnight on New Year's Day of the year 2000, Nicole is likely the first weredragon born in the 21st century. The daughter of Chyanne Newheart, a weredragon of First Nations Canadian descent, Nicole was raised among the many children born to her father, Lucio Salvini, a tyrannical mob boss and de facto dictator of the weredragon world. Given the symbolic significance of her birthday, Lucio had high expectations for his youngest daughter, and saw her as the final piece in his quest to enslave humanity. But when Chyanne learned Lucio planned to marry Nicole off to one of her siblings, she hid her daughter amid a fledgling resistance movement, hoping to keep her safe from Lucio's grasp.
After spending nearly a decade living in the abandoned subway tunnels of New York City, Nicole was thrust back into the world of weredragons when Nathan stumbled into her life. Encouraged by his determination and bravery, Nicole now fights alongside her love in a bid to prevent the weredragons from tearing their world apart.
