Building a Strong and Caring Community
Let us take a moment and enlarge our perspective on our own lives. Our existence, as it is today, has been the result of an incredibly long evolutionary process. In humanity’s search so far, proof of life, as we know, has been found on no other planet yet. Theories exist, yes, of extra-terrestrial creatures and alternate dimensions, but the conclusive reality of life is what just we, the fortunate sentient beings of this planet Earth are experiencing. Is that not worth treasuring? I believe what is more to be treasured is that we get to live this wonder of a life ‘together’. We live in relation to one another. Our joys, sorrows, successes, downfalls, struggles and breakthroughs would mean nothing if they were not shared. Our own individual growth, in fact, is connected to those who surround us, to our community. In the post-pandemic period especially, this realisation is stronger than ever.
A community represents the inherent social nature of human beings. It also represents the interconnectedness and power of human beings. Ordinary people, when they come together as a community, can do extraordinary things. Being embedded in a strong and caring community enhances one’s own well-being. Look at our DAV Alumni community, for instance! We are proud to have one of the biggest alumni communities in the world. Our alumni are our brand ambassadors. Their victories inspire the coming generation and their experience is the authentic source of guidance that we can always rely on. This is how we all grow together—in the virtuous circle of a robust community!
DAV is no ordinary educational organisation; ours is a movement dedicated to the service of the entire humanity. From its humble beginnings to the mighty tree that it has become today, the journey has become what it is through the collective efforts of many luminaries. An African proverb perfectly captures the importance of community: “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together!” The community of DAV stands on this sense of unity and belonging. Our role as its members is to forge this community-spirit even better.
To actualise this mission, we, along with DAV United, have taken several initiatives in the past few years. Our Alumni Reunions, DAV Premier Leagues, DAV United Festivals, Literature Conclaves and many other events have all been successful efforts in this regard. Through them we could create the camaraderie and re-ignite the connections that we hold so dear. Let us not be just the bystanders, but the actors, musicians, scriptwriters and directors of this great journey. Remember, alone we can only do so much; together, there is no limit to what we can achieve.
Om Shanti!
