Our members love American Food
This week's Family Home Evening was a Halloween party. These are pretty popular in Japan. They like doing things that are american. Many came in costume and we had a great time. We had an all time high attendance of 34. That's alot of hot dogs and chili.
Everyone had a great time and some of the members brought their friends and co-workers who are not members. This makes for a great missionary opportunity.

Two months ago Susan and I decided to dress up for the Halloween party. We decided it would be fun to go as Trump and Melania. So we had to order wigs and other items to make the costume work from Amazon Japan.
To our surprise, the day of the Halloween party the real Trump came to Japan for a visit. This made our costume the hit of the evening. This is the skinny version of Donald and Melania.

These two missionaries are Elders Ito on the right and Elder Smith in the center. They are the current zone leaders of our zone and do a fantactic job. Humble but capable servants of our Savior they lead and teach very effectively. We enjoy having the assignment to assist them in any way they ask. It is fun to let them lead and to be there to support them.

We provide a meal and orgainize a spiritual message each Monday night for family home evening for the YSA Branch. Most of these members are either in college or are working in the Shibuya area. This area is known for having a lot of young adults generally and so it makes a great place for a YSA branch of the church.

We typically have 25-30 come for family home evening. Last night the Sister Missionaries, Sister Oliviera and Sister Stocker, gave our spiritual message about testimony. This group shares their testimonies formally in testimony meeting but also informally through good food, good conversation and good friends at FHE. One member told me that those who came last night needed support from their demanding lives.

I have been told that this ancient Japanese Lantern was on the property when the LDS Church purchased it shortly after World War II ended.
During the last remodel of the Tokyo Temple, this lantern was preserved and is still on the Temple Gounds.

The above You Tube video tells the story of the of the Tokyo Temple. It is truly a sacred site with a miraculous history. Susan and I are honored to be able to serve as temple ordinance workers once a week. We also attend as patrons from time to time. The past 3 weeks we have done special baptistry sessions for American youth groups who have been returning from a service experience in Mongolia. Our church reaqches out an touches so many different countries and cultures. posted August 13, 2025
Missionaries for the LDS church serve as Jesus Christ commanded during his earthly ministry to "Go therefore, and teach all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost."
