Personal

I am an assistant professor at the University of Colorado. I am trained as a planetary scientist, and conduct research in planetary space physics and upper atmospheres. I like relating these topics to the long term evolution of planets.

I have lived in the four main time zones of the U.S. I was born and raised in Columbia, Maryland. I spent four years in college at Rice University in Houston (though I never spent a summer in the Houston heat). I then spent eight years in Boulder in graduate school and doing a short postdoc, then eight years living in Dublin, California and working at UC Berkeley. In 2011 I returned to Boulder, an enthusiastic victim of Chief Niwot’s curse.

I live in Boulder with my wife and two children. We enjoy the mountains and getting outside as much as possible. I like to hike, camp, run, bike, and play volleyball, basketball, and racquetball. I am also a (relatively) long-suffering fan of the Baltimore Orioles, though recent seasons have been a welcome improvement.
