INTRODUCTION

A library is a place where curiosity comes alive.

Without libraries what have we? We have no past and no future.

FOR THE LOVE OF READING

“ Books are the gateways to every kind of knowledge we possess ”

Consistent efforts are made at DAV Public School, Chandrasekharpur, to inculcate good reading habits in the pupils. Today, availability of multiple sources of entertainment to the students takes them away from the amazing world of books. The school’s library offers a wide range of books, journals, reference material and magazines to the students to kindle and sustain their interest in reading and research skills. An array of activities, in association with Scholastic, under the banner ‘One Nation Reading Together’ was held in the school. In the Nursery wing of the school, Special Assembly, Story Reading session, Pictionary activity and Doodling brought the joy of reading to the tiny-tots.

In the Primary wing, ‘Drop Everything and Read’ sessions were carried out. All students brought one book of their choice and read during the dedicated hour. Through activities students also learnt how to take care of books. They also penned down their views on importance of reading on a Graffiti wall. In the senior wing, students of classes VI-VIII participated enthusiastically in a discussion on their favourite character. A war of words on the topic ‘Will Kindle Replace Books’ made the students of class IX-X put on their thinking caps. Yet another thought proving debate for class XI- XII on the topic ‘ Books Influence Aspirations of Children towards Professional Careers’ brought to the fore the perspectives of the pupils. Apart, from the teaching staff and the students the helping staff also relished the fruits of reading. The members of the helping staff were appreciative of the initiative and shared that it was a wonderful experience to dive into the world of stories. A growing demand for e-books and e-books readers at public libraries are changing trends in how people access books.
