DAV Chapter 31, enjoys giving back to the Atwater-Merced Veteran Community. We are here to fulfill DAV's mission:
We are dedicated to a single purpose: empowering veterans to lead high-quality lives with respect and dignity. We accomplish this by ensuring that veterans and their families can access the full range of benefits available to them; fighting for the interests of America’s injured heroes on Capitol Hill; and educating the public about the great sacrifices and needs of veterans transitioning back to civilian life.
October 8, 2022. DAV Chapter 31 - California was fortunate to set an information table at this fall's Open Cockpit event facilitated by the Castle Air Museum. We talked to a lot of people, made some connections, and received community support. It was a great event; we are grateful to the community of the Atwater-Merced area for your support of veterans and veteran service organizations.

On September 16, 2022, some DAV Chapter 31 - California members attended the Awards Ceremony for Women Veterans, an event by AUSA Central California Chapter 6105. We are happy that some of our Women Veterans were able to participate in and receive the recognition they deserve. To all women who have served in the Armed Forces, know that DAV Chapter 31 - California is grateful for your service, and we thank you for your sacrifice.

On Thursday, August 18, 2022, a good number of Disabled American Veterans mingled and had lunch with the veterans residing at the Village of Hope in Merced. All had a good time getting to know each other just a little bit better. We also offered our services to assist them in filing VA claims if they so choose. If you are interested in joining our local DAV chapter (Atwater/Merced), please contact us at 209-326-1997
The picture above was taken on August 2, 2022 and it shows Ed H. and Ms. Sydney (volunteer) standing near the Mariposa County Health & Human Services. Ed, one of our DAV Chapter 31 - California members, took some basic supplies (water & toilet paper) to Mariposa, CA, to donate/help the Oak fire victims.
Ed, your actions bring great credit to you, the Mariposa community, the gov't workers, and volunteers working tirelessly to help those in need.
When Ed asked why he did it, He said, "It was for the veterans. You have no idea how I love my veterans".
Thank you, Ed, and a big thank you to everyone helping with the firefighting efforts. We are grateful for your time and effort. What you do every day speaks volumes about human kindness.
On March 31, 2022, DAV Chapter 31 in partnership with DAV National Service Office (Oakland, CA) conducted a Veterans Information Seminar. The goal of the event was to bring awareness of veterans benefits and to help veterans file VA claims.
On January 20, 2022, DAV Chapter 31 hosted a Veteran Information Seminar where Dignity Memorial was the speaker. In addition, they facilitated information on the "Veterans Planning Guide," this funeral arrangement planning seminar's goal was to provide information to make an unforeseeable and challenging situation for our loved ones less stressful.
On December 23, 2021, a few DAV members were able to make it out in the rain to donate $2,000 towards the lounge in the Hope for Veterans building at the Merced Rescue Mission's new campus.
