Data of/by/for the People - Designing Participatory Approaches to Data Governance
Monday 1st July 2024 at IT University, Copenhagen
Monday 1st July 2024 at IT University, Copenhagen
Alternative data governance structures have emerged with the aim of restructuring how data is collected, looked after and used through more participatory, community-led and inclusive approaches. By moving towards more participatory and community-led data governance, it is important to engage with communities to explore possible future models and support the design of structures that work for them. Design methods can provide creative, playful and speculative approaches that support knowledge building, co-design and exploring alternative futures.
This 1-day workshop will bring together a wide range of HCI researchers, practitioners and designers working in areas of privacy, security, law, policy, governance, social science, community practice and beyond to consider the role of design approaches in engaging communities with data practices and embedding varied lived experiences into new technological developments. The workshop will explore themes around:
Emerging practices of data governance
Embedding care in data governance models, processes or practices
Meaningful spaces for engagement and representation
