Background

Introduction

Analyzing students' behavior in online learning activities and detecting specific patterns of interaction in learning management system (LMS) is a topic of great interest for the educational data mining (EDM) and learning analytics (LA) research communities . Learning Analytics provides useful information to instructors by combining and analyzing students' data during the course.

For example, how often and when they accessed the learning activities. It is intended to help instructors improve the knowledge and skill acquisition of their students, provide useful information about their learning experience and behavior. This maximizes student learning potential while enhancing teaching and delivery methods.

Learning Analytics leverages digital trace data from online systems to try to gain insights into learner behavior. These trace data are created by learners as they take actions within the learning management system. For example, trace data are created when a learner watches a lecture video, completes an online quiz, views online feedback, or makes a post on a digital discussion board. Similarly, trace data are also obtainable from student administration systems, educator records, and online cloud systems.

Project's Scope

Identification of different patterns of student’s behavior to help instructors improve student’s skills.
Prediction of student’s performance based on their engagement in class (frequency of access).Specifically, the identification of students who will likely get excellent grades for the course).
Identify the frequency of student access based on carry mark.

Problem Statements

To develop a greater understanding of how students interpret and respond to online course participation through learning analysis and the influence of these online course participation on student mark and grade.
To collect and analysis the data about learners and their environments for the purpose of understanding and improving learning outcomes.
