As part of the learning experience in Data in Law Practice 2022, we use real-world technology platforms, rather than education-specific ones (e.g. Brightspace). The purpose of this is two-fold: one, these platforms work best to support communication and work for this course with ease and efficiency. Two, we seek to expose you to different technologies as part of the learning experience, to expand your technology proficiency and give you practice with using different technologies.
π’ IMPORTANT NOTE: Slack is the sole platform for all course communication.
We use Slack (slack.com) for all class communication (in lieu of email/Brightspace), beginning with the second class session. All students registered following the add-drop period will receive an email with the link to join the DLP 2022 Slack team. Please join ASAP, as all course communication will take place in Slack from that point forward.
Using Slack for all course communication is a mandatory course requirement.
Direct communication with profs. To contact us (your professors) for any reason once the Slack team is open, please send a direct message (DM) in Slack. Slack enables us to communicate very quickly, keep all communication private, and neatly organized in a single place.
Weekly assignments. We use Slack to share all weekly assignments.
Written assignments. Written assignments are submitted in Slack.
And more! Other ways we use Slack:
to engage in discussions about ideas we explore in DLP 2022
to share resources, news, and insight with DLP 2022 colleagues
to share all general course information
π Find helpful information on how to use Slack here: Slack 101.
We use Google Docs for any written assignments, which are submitted directly in Google Doc format via DM.
You will need a Google account for using Google Docs to submit written assignments. If you don't already have a Google account, you can create one using your Vanderbilt email address by choosing the "use my current email address" option.
