We are a space that seeks to contribute to gender equality because we want a more just world for everyone. To achieve this, we organize ourselves into different laboratories in which we approach various aspects of the world from an interdisciplinary and transfeminist perspective.
From this space we promote dialogues and debates that we consider essential to reflect on the context in which data is produced, its use and protection. Our main objective is to promote ethical and fair ways of using data with a gender perspective.
How do we do it? We start from feminist epistemology to think about who and for what purposes data is produced, especially that which is later used for the development of artificial intelligence, since these models then directly impact people's lives.
We understand that the ethical dimension is inescapable: it is not just any data at any cost. It is always necessary to ask: data for what? Because data can also serve to stigmatize, exclude, marginalize or criminalize groups.
We firmly believe that the data ethics debate requires a global perspective: including the professionals who work with it, academics who produce it, data activist communities, and all the people and populations whose data is being mined and exploited.
We are committed to building and promoting a feminist data ethic that allows us to understand the ways in which power (or micro-powers) operates and to test new logic for operating in a way in which data constitute a tool to advance towards a more just, equitable and inclusive society.
From this space we formulate and implement projects that contribute to making a gender perspective more mainstream and strengthening the use of data in government actions. Our objective is to promote the production, analysis and ethical use of non-binary data by different state actors, while collaborating in the development of an open data policy.
How do we do it? We imagine comprehensive solutions with a gender perspective that are a valuable contribution in the three branches of the government - executive, legislative and judicial - as well as in the three levels of governance - national, provincial and municipal. In addition, we work on the valuation, improvement, digitization, automation and analysis of administrative records, so that they are available for decision-making based on evidence.
We recommend public policies that contribute to substantive gender equality. It is essential that data is created, implemented and evaluated in a way that overcomes binaryism and reflect the experiences of all. At DataGenero we maintain that without equality of data there is no equality of gender.
It is essential to create evidence-based public policies which remain in dialogue with a gender and intersectional perspective.
We are committed to promoting actions and taking measures which support the production and analysis of data with a gender perspective to serve as the pillars of public policies that bring us closer to equality.
