🏆️ DataFest Germany Winners 🏆️

We congratulate the three winning teams of DataFest Germany 2023.

Honorable Mention: Team Try & Error

What is DataFest? 🎉

DataFest is a competition and networking event. You will get the unique opportunity to work with a large dataset and analyze it using your own ideas as well as meet leaders and companies in the field of statistics. DataFest began in 2011 at UCLA, and is now sponsored by the American Statistical Association.

This is the 6th time we're running DataFest in Germany.

What is the Task?  👀

DataFest assignments are kept secret until the beginning of the event. In previous years, we provided data from the Los Angeles Police Department, which were analyzed for solutions to reduce crime rates, as well as data from a dating site which were analyzed for characteristics that predicted the users' dating decisions.

In order to preserve the integrity of the event, we ask that you only work on the dataset while you are at the DataFest site. At least two team members from each team must be present at the beginning of the event.

Will there be food? 🥗

Yes! We will provide plenty of food and drinks throughout the duration of the event.

Are there prizes? 🥇🥈🥉

Yes! At the close of the event, teams present their results to a jury of experts. Prizes are awarded in three categories:

I'm not affiliated with the LMU, can I still join DataFest Germany? 🏛️

Yes, DataFest Germany is open to students from anywhere! Unfortunately we cannot provide accomodation, but here's a list from DataFest 2016 of cheap hotels / hostels in Munich if you need a place to sleep.

How to Participate 🥳

Bachelor and Masters-level students of all subjects are welcome to apply in teams of 2-5 people. Because of the assignment's complexity, we recommend that your team consist of three people at least. Unfortunately, we will not accept teams with doctoral students or post-docs. If you would still like to participate, contact us to be considered as a DataFest Germany advisor.

If you still need members to form a team, you can meet other interested students through our DataFest Group on Facebook.

Applications are open until 27th of March 2023. Since we can accept only 15 teams, we recommend to apply fast before places fill up.

Please also note, that to complete the registration process, each team will need to pay a fee of 30€ per team. The fee should be payed to:

DataFest Germany e.V.

Make sure to name as purpose of the transfer: "[Teamname] Datafest 2023". Your application is only completed after we received the participation fee.

Already have a team?

Update 📣: Since we had many teams sign up already for DataFest Germany 2023 all places have been filled right now. You can still sign up with your team right now, but you will be put on the waiting list and we will reach out if additional slots open up. You only need to pay the registration fee if your team gets off the waiting list.
