Welcome to the Data-Driven Hazard Mitigation and Advanced Infrastructure Resilience Lab. The principal investigator is Dr. Peng-Yu Chen. Dr. Chen received his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), and he is an Assistant Professor in the National Central University (Taiwan) and a Visiting Assistant Researcher of UCLA.
The Data-AI-Resilience Lab focuses on implementing data-driven artificial intelligence approaches to enhance infrastructure resilience under natural hazards (e.g., earthquake, typhoon/hurricane). The ongoing researches including (1) Rapid seismic assessment for old reinforced concrete buildings at a city scale; (2) Cost-benefit analysis for infrastructure resilience in the life cycle; (3) AIoT-based digital twins for advanced infrastructures. If you are also interested in these projects, welcome to join us.

[02/11/2023] Prof. Chen's most recent papers have been published in Earthquake Engineering & Structural Dynamics. In these articles, we utilized the high-performance computer Frontera at Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) to conduct physics-based ground motion (GM) simulations from sources to sites and evaluate the fragility, loss, and resilience of 16,030 RC buildings for Istanbul, Turkey. Simulated GMs, fragility functions, and engineering demand parameters are available at the Data Depot of NHERI DesignSafe and the regional assessment has been integrated into the NHERI SimCenter R2D tool.
