Darth supports greatly reducing income tax on the middle class and implementing a negative income tax for members of lower tax brackets. Meanwhile, income taxes for upper tax brackets as well as estate taxes and land value taxes will be increased in order to account for their far greater ability to pay such fees, thereby funding healthcare and entitlement programs without having to place undue burden on the working class.
The three wealthiest Americans are more wealthy than the collective bottom half, with the financial top 1% of Americans only increasing in wealth as the middle class continues to shrink. By placing a wealth tax on the top percentiles of Americans, those valued at over $20,000,000.00, the wealth of billionaires would be cut in half over the course of a decade, raising trillions of dollars to be used to fund mass programs intended to help normal Americans in that time.
When it comes to corporations, it has come time to rewrite parts of the Internal Revenue Code in order to eliminate major loopholes and certain tax breaks offered to large corporations that inevitably pay no taxes at all. This would involve increasing the corporate tax rate to 40%, limiting interest deduction to a lower proportion of adjusted taxable income, applying the same tax rate on domestic and foreign income, eliminating tax breaks for foreign-derived incomes, and requiring high-income corporations to publish their international tax returns.
This is not a radical proposal. The United States, being founded upon the principle that all people are created equal, is tasked with enforcing that equality in the material world by imposing taxes and ensuring that the wealthy pay their fair share to society. With the implementation of such a tax plan, funding issues will have dissipated almost completely, with trillions able to be used for healthcare and education programs.
Just as with healthcare, having access to stable and affordable housing is a human right that cannot be denied of any American, regardless of their financial status. But as millions of families spend a majority of their income on housing, it has become clear that we have failed in this duty to the American people.
With a shortage of almost 10 million affordable homes, contracting these projects and funding them through a Housing Trust Fund modeled off of that of the Atlantic Commonwealth, which is established by Darth's Affordable Housing Act.
Once they have housing, tenants will also be protected by stricter guidelines to be followed when it comes to non-discrimination, providing notice, and other landlord activities that may interfere with that fundamental right to affordable shelter. Working to establish a right to counsel in the case of evictions will reduce rates by five times, thus improving housing security and keeping the housing market stable.
Finally, warehousing fees will reduce the likelihood of units intentionally being left empty in order to artificially reduce supply, thus increasing prices out of equilibrium to the point where they are disproportionately high for the caliber of housing.
The American justice system no longer hands out justice. Now, it is merely a tool of the elite to punish the working class for stepping out of line and has been used and abused to protect the wealthy at the cost of the poor.
Within the Atlantic Commonwealth, Darth has spearheaded the charge for widespread criminal justice reform, authoring the No Atlantean Left Behind Act, which eliminates a number of unconstitutional crimes in order to return personal liberties to the people and reduce the likelihood of the justice system being abused for racially-motivated purposes.
This accomplishes a dual purpose. Not only is the incarceration rate reduced because normal Americans are no longer imprisoned for petty crimes such as consuming drugs for recreational use, organized crime will also see a noticeable drop just as it did following the ratification of the twenty-first amendment to the Constitution.
When it comes to the prison system, nothing less than a complete elimination of the for-profit private prison system and detention system can be accepted, alongside the end of fees associated with prison programs and the practice of cash bail, which all serve to disproportionately affect poorer Americans who cannot afford better services or to see their families while in prison.
Ultimately, it is key to shift the justice system from punishment to rehabilitation.
Darth co-sponsors the Green New Deal and was an outspoken advocate for the Atlantic's energy reform plan, which nationalized energy infrastructure and implemented measures to shift from harmful fossil fuels to cleaner sources of renewable energy.
The Power Marketing Administration System will be expanded under the bill, which will completely end the necessity for non-sustainable generation sources for about $2T, easily funded by the expanded tax programs that will be initiated. Combined with the construction of a smart grid, which will create thousands of jobs, this project will maximize efficiency in our energy grid and ensure reliable access to power throughout the country. This new energy infrastructure, rather than being a public-private partnership involving corporations unfairly given ownership of the grid, will be wholly public owned, managed by agencies within the Department of Energy and completely responsible to the American people.
Through projects built off of SunWorks and other Department of Energy programs, the cost of energy storage will be also reduced, thus making power more accessible.
Darth was a strong supporter of initiatives to expand and fund the National Park Service, but believes that another step needs to be taken. His district of AC-1 includes some of the most successful national parks in the country, including Acadia, Mount Desert Island, the White Mountains, and Cape Cod. With the expansion of their funding by a little of $8bn, the national parks can be restored in order to protect delicate ecosystems and create more jobs.
Darth has diverged from many members of the coalition and is an advocate of the second amendment rights of all Americans, currently waging a legal battle against the Commonwealth in an attempt to strike down the unconstitutional "Common Sense" Gun Control Act, which effectively eliminates second amendment rights altogether.
The people of the United States have a long history of defending themselves from oppression, and the working class must be armed if they are to prevent their further exploitation by corrupt corporate cronies.
While his opponent has done nothing more than virtue signal, Darth is fighting to preserve the second amendment and will continue to do so in the Senate.
Healthcare is a human right. No matter what insurance corporations may say, it needs to be affordable and accessible if we are to have fulfilled our duty of protecting the single most fundamental right to live. Although the Republicans have compromised on American values, consistently refusing to introduce healthcare initiatives, Darth pledges to only show support for a caucus that protects the fundamental right to accessible healthcare and will work towards having universal healthcare passed during the next Congress.
This will involve eliminating private insurance entirely, moving entirely to a state-managed plan to eliminate complexity. This is not radical nor expensive, for the American people spend more per capita on healthcare than any developed country precisely because of this privatized complexity. By offering healthcare, including but not limited to abortions and gender affirmation surgery, free of charge, we can ensure that no American is turned away from their right to live merely because of their financial status.
