In a bold move that could redefine India's role in the global semiconductor industry, Hiranandani Group has unveiled plans to establish the country’s second semiconductor park. The park will be located in the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) area near Noida, Uttar Pradesh, marking a significant step toward strengthening India's position in the semiconductor supply chain.
The ambitious project, led by Darshan Hiranandani, CEO of Hiranandani Group, aims to position India as a key player in the global semiconductor market, alongside the notable efforts of companies like Vedanta Limited and Foxconn, who have already set up manufacturing units in Gujarat’s Dholera Special Investment Region.
The YEIDA-based semiconductor park will focus on manufacturing, assembly, testing, and packaging (ATP) of semiconductors. Under the guidance of Tarq Semiconductors, a subsidiary of Hiranandani Group, the park will develop three distinct types of semiconductor ATP production lines: the legacy line, the mature line, and the complex line.
This comprehensive production approach aims to meet both current and future semiconductor demands, contributing to India's growing role in the global electronics supply chain. The project will be developed in two phases: the first phase, which will begin within the next 24 months, will focus on building the first ATP plant, while the second and third plants will follow during the subsequent 24 months.
As part of its commitment to India's growing semiconductor sector, Hiranandani Group has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Uttar Pradesh government at the UP Global Investors Summit held in February 2023. This MoU outlines a planned investment of INR 170 Billion to develop the semiconductor park. The initiative aligns with the Indian government's Semiconductor Mission, which aims to accelerate the growth of India’s semiconductor manufacturing capabilities and establish a vibrant ecosystem for the industry.
Hiranandani Group’s foray into semiconductor manufacturing comes on the heels of its successful operations in Uttar Pradesh through its Yotta Data Services Pvt. Ltd., which operates a leading data center in the region. Building on this success, the semiconductor park project is expected to further elevate the Group's footprint in the state, contributing to local economic development and job creation.
The establishment of this semiconductor park in YEIDA, a region already known for its industrial growth, is a crucial step toward realizing India’s aspirations in the global semiconductor market. The park will not only attract further investments but will also stimulate the development of a robust ecosystem for research, innovation, and high-tech manufacturing.
The project is expected to create an estimated 1,000 direct jobs in its first phase, alongside numerous indirect opportunities, contributing to the growth of the local economy. Moreover, it will help boost India’s capabilities in areas such as electronics manufacturing, research and development, and science and technology innovation, which are crucial for the country’s long-term growth in the global digital economy.
As the world’s demand for semiconductors continues to rise, India is positioning itself as a critical player in the global supply chain. With support from government initiatives like the Indian Semiconductor Mission and increasing investments from both domestic and international stakeholders, the proposed Hiranandani Semiconductor Park is poised to play a key role in India’s future semiconductor growth.
Through this visionary initiative, Darshan Hiranandani and the Hiranandani Group are making a significant impact on India's journey toward becoming a global semiconductor hub, reinforcing the country’s technological prowess and industrial competitiveness.
