As an educator my mission is to continue to be an example for my students, so they will develop holistically. I will provide them with an environment conducive to learning and each students will get the best education to be successful.

Why I Teach
As a child growing up my interest in teaching started at a very early age. In Jamaica Kindergarten education often started at home as elders in the community started their own private school’s from their homes. I distinctly remember my neighbor living across from me opening her own school. I would go over to help her after my school ended each day. I admired her dedication and the effort she puts in with her students. This made me develop a love for teaching. Later in high school I did the Sciences as my aim was to become a doctor, a change from beating empty benches pretending they were children. After graduating high school my career path changed once more. I was encouraged to take up a job at the local high school at the age of 18, teaching grade 7 students. I did this for 4 months. After this I was again given an opportunity to teach at another high school for 2 years. At this time I fell in love again with teaching and after completing this I made it official and enrolled in Teacher’s College. I had a hard time deciding what to major in. I settled for Elementary Education as I love to draw and make things come alive. I thought this would be ideal for smaller students. I did not regret this even though I did a specialized course that would allow me to teach Math at High Schools. My love and passion for teaching is ongoing and after 23 years in the classroom my passion has not waned. I still enjoy interactions with my students and making my classroom come alive through my teaching aids.
Why I Enrolled in the MSED Program
Completing my MSED has always been one of my goals in life, but after becoming a mother I got a bit off track focusing on giving my children the best education there is. My best friend who is also an educator did her MSED and was on her way doing her Doctorate inspired me to start this program. When covid came I voluntarily worked with The Paul Miles Foundation giving back to my home country Jamaica. I recruited some of my friends working with me and offered training to the teachers in Jamaica. We did courses with them showing them how to use Google Suite as well as other apps. My best friend once again urged me to start my Masters as well as the founder of the Paul Miles Foundation. He says I have too much talent wasted. My best friend gave me a lot of encouragement and inspiration. She knows that this has always been a dream of mine and even though I said I’m too old she gave me the courage to enroll. She has been with me every step of the way and I am glad I made this decision.
