Information and Show Packet

Dark Horse Live is a model horse show in Lexington, KY for all black horses, benefiting black animals in shelters. The show's intention is to raise funds to pay the adoption fees of black, long-term residents in local animal shelters. Black animals have a tough time getting adopted, sometimes because of superstition, because they may look mean, they're not "pretty" enough, or in some cases because they're just overlooked. Many people refer to this as "Black dog/cat syndrome." To help some of these animals get adopted, we hope to raise enough funds to pay for the adoption fees, and thus give these animals an advantage and to hopefully be adopted quicker.

Additionally to helping real black animals in need, the show is also designed to help black model horses get noticed in the show ring, and encourage showers to take these black horses to the North American Nationals hosted by NAMHSA. Just like real animals, black models often get overlooked in the show rings when placed next to flashier models, even if they are flawless and a perfect representation of their breed. By allowing black horses only to show, this eliminates other color competition, thus giving these horses an advantage and giving them the chance to compete in NAN.

Due to being held at the Lexington Public Library, the show entry is free, but will be limited. In turn we please ask that you consider donating an amount of your choice to help sponsor these adoptable pets.

We can only take 15-25 entrants depending on how many people choose half tables. Entries will be approved on a first come-first served basis. Entries will be accepted no later than January 26, 2018.

Please provide your own lunch. Snacks will be provided throughout the day.
