Hi there :)
I'm Danny (Zhiyin) Yu, a PhD student (2026-) supervised by Prof. Maggie Ziyin Mai at the Department of Linguistics and Modern Languages at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK).
Before coming to CUHK, I completed my Master of Arts in Linguistics at the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, Tsinghua University (THU), advised by Prof. Xiaoshi Hu. I received a Bachelor's degree (2019-2023) in English (Linguistics) at Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS), where I was advised by Prof. Zhuang Wu.
My current research interests include language acquisition, bilingualism and syntax–semantics interface. My broader research goal is to integrate formal linguistic theory with experimental and corpus-based methods to better understand how language is structured and acquired.

About Me
I was born and raised in Guangzhou, China. I grew up speaking Cantonese and Mandarin as my native languages, and English as my second language. This trilingual background has shaped both my identity and my academic interests.
I am particularly interested in Cantonese and the ways it informs our understanding of language acquisition, definiteness, and sentence-final particles. I see Cantonese not only as my mother tongue, but also as a rich source of theoretical and empirical insights.
