Daniel Turaev

I am a PhD student supervised by Laura Ciobanu. I started in 2024 at Heriot-Watt University in Scotland, but since 2025 I am at Technische Universität Berlin. Before my PhD, I was a Research Master's student at the University of East Anglia, where I was supervised by Robert Gray. My work at UEA focused on decision problems in the plactic monoids. 

My research interests include formal language theory, combinatorial and geometric group theory, decision problems, and logic. I am also fascinated by linguistics, in particular syntax, typology, and historical linguistics, but there my interests are moreso armchair than professional.
