Daniel Strogen is a ESRC-funded doctoral researcher and Senior Teaching Assistant at Swansea University. His PhD looks at Welsh among young people, with a focus on new Welsh speakers and the factors shaping their language use/disuse. His interests include language attitudes, identity, and belief systems, explored through mixed-methods approaches.
He has previously worked as a research assistant on several projects, and completed degrees in English and Social Research Methods. He also holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Primary Education and a CELTA. During his undergraduate studies, he worked on the Step Up to Swansea participation programme, supporting students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Beyond academia, Daniel is a short fiction writer. His work has been published by Parthian Books, and his debut short story Cracked/Duck was shortlisted for the 2022 Rhys Davies Short Story Award. He is passionate about language, literature, and widening access to education, with broader interests in psycholinguistics, dialectology, and language policy and planning. Daniel is also a member of several professional bodies, including BAAL, EuroSLA, LAGB, the Celtic Students' Association, and the Chartered College of Teachers.
