I am an ESRC-funded doctoral researcher and senior teaching assistant in Applied Linguistics at Swansea University. My PhD examines Welsh language use after compulsory education, with a particular focus on new Welsh speakers and the factors that shape language use, maintenance, or disengagement once institutional support falls away. My research is concerned with language attitudes, identity, and belief systems, and draws on mixed-methods approaches combining qualitative and quantitative data.
I have previously worked as a research assistant on a number of projects and hold degrees in English Language and Social Research Methods, alongside a Postgraduate Certificate in Primary Education and a CELTA. During my undergraduate studies, I worked on the Step Up to Swansea participation programme, supporting students from under-represented and disadvantaged backgrounds.
Alongside my academic work, I am a short fiction writer. My work has been published by Parthian Books, and my debut short story Cracked/Duck was shortlisted for the 2022 Rhys Davies Short Story Award. I am also a member of several professional bodies, including BAAL, EuroSLA, LAGB, the Celtic Students’ Association, and the Chartered College of Teachers.
