Daniel Strogen is a WGSSS-funded doctoral student at Swansea University. Daniel's doctoral research focuses on Welsh language shift among young people, with particular attention to new Welsh speakers and the factors shaping their use or disuse of the language. He is especially interested in language attitudes, identity, and belief systems, and is interested in using mixed-methods approaches.
Daniel previously completed degrees in English, education, and social research methods, and holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Education as well as a CELTA. During his undergraduate years, he worked for the Reaching Wider initiative’s Step Up to Swansea programme - a widening participation scheme that supports students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Daniel is passionate about language, literature, and access to education. His broader interests include second language psycholinguistics, dialectology, language attitudes, and language policy and planning.
