About Dr. Dan Brown

I am currently Visiting Assistant Professor of Political Science in the Department of Political Science at the College of Charleston. I received my PhD in Comparative Politics and International Relations with a regional focus on the Middle East from the University of Oklahoma in 2018. 

I am an experienced and passionate teacher and scholar of Middle East politics, social mobilization, civil society in non-democratic regimes, democratization, culture and identity, and of the constantly changing faces of authoritarianism and hybrid regimes. I insist on presenting an on-the-ground view of the Middle East and the people, culture, and politics of the region, dispelling rumors and igniting the passions of my students to understand the past, present, and future of the region.
