Academic gains are the ultimate door opener – they are the foundation of a truly transformational teacher. Students make dramatic levels of academic growth (that is measurable and rigorous). Families know the level of rigor necessary for college and career readiness in the 21st century.
The consistent collection of data from my students is one of the best ways to assess academic gains throughout the year and reinforce foundations I have put into place to assist me in being a more transformative educator. In addition to providing my students with rigorous tasks that have been differentiated to be inclusive of all learners, I analyze the results from those tasks to help build and drive instruction moving forward to ensure I am providing students with a holistic learning experience. Students are encouraged to not only push themselves through challenging work, but to be reflective of their individual gains in order to celebrate achievements and clarify misunderstandings. In my classroom both qualitative and quantitative data are facilitated through teacher created assessments, district developed quarterly assessments, and end of unit one pager activities. Testing data is centrally collected through a platform called Mastery Connect that stores data and builds a student profile of mastery through all of the standards covered in the academic year.

The measure of a growth in my classroom is structured to be inclusive of the varying cultures represented by my students. Through the usage of both Qualitative and Quantitative data I have shown how I assess mastery, track growth, and adjust lesson presentation to provide my students with rigorous lessons that have been properly differentiated. By collecting various forms of data from my students I am able to analyze their understandings of content and implement 21st century learning skills that work in conjunction with my teaching to produce measurable and observable results. In order for this practice to be effective consistently collect data and regularly reflect on the results provided by the data. This section has shown how I continue to use relevant data to support my students do deepen their academic knowledge in my content area.
