Teaching Statement and Philosophy
Former class blogs: I have used class blogs in some of my classes to create a sense of community and ownership. Below are links to those blogs.
Former course syllabi: These are the syllabi of courses I have taught in the past where I was the primary instructor. For a full list of my teaching, please refer to my CV.
Former example PowerPoint lectures: Below are a few examples of PowerPoint lectures (in PDF format) that I have used in classes. *Some slides have animations in the PowerPoint versions and thus images cover up the underlying text in the PDF format.
In class activities, PowerPoint shorts, and labs: Below are examples of short in class activities that I have used to evaluate student comprehension of covered material and/or extension of materials covered during a class period. Depending on my intentions I may have students perform these tasks at the beginning, during, or at the end of a lecture period. PowerPoint shorts are short presentations that is intended to have students think about how a tool such as GIS can be used to look at broader questions, many of which lie outside of their area of study. Lab exercises are used to show students how to apply what they have learned in a lecture setting. I like to think that labs are where the rubber meets the road.
