Danfeng Hong (洪丹枫)

Biography

Dr. Danfeng Hong is currently a Full Professor at Southeast University, Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, China, and a recipient of the Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship for Experienced Researchers (in Germany) and JSPS Fellowship (in Japan). Previously, I was a Full Professor at the Aerospace Information Research Institute (AIR), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and Deputy Director of the National Key Laboratory of Remote Sensing and Digital Earth. Before joining CAS, I worked as a Research Scientist leading the “Spectral Vision” group at the Department of Earth Observation Data Science, Remote Sensing Technology Institute (IMF), German Aerospace Center (DLR), Germany. I also held appointments as an Adjunct Scientist at GIPSA-Lab, University of Grenoble Alpes/CNRS, France, and as a Consultant for the Helmholtz AI Cooperation Unit (HAICU).

I am an IEEE Senior Member, with 35,000+ citations (h-index 87, Google Scholar) and over 260 peer-reviewed publications in leading journals and conferences, including Nature Reviews Methods Primers, Nature Cities, IEEE TPAMI, IEEE TIP, IEEE GRSM, IEEE TCYB, IEEE TNNLS, IEEE TGRS, RSE, ISPRS, CVPR, ECCV, NeurIPS, AAAI, ACM MM. These include 24 ESI Hot Papers and 65 ESI Highly Cited Papers. My research focuses on Artificial Intelligence, Multimodal Remote Sensing, Foundation Models, Hyperspectral Imaging, and AI for Earth Science (AI4ES). 

I currently serve as Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence (TPAMI), IEEE Transactions on Image Processing (TIP) and IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing (TGRS), Senior Area Editor for IEEE Transactions on Computational Imaging (TCI), Area Editor for Information Fusion, and so on. My honors include the IEEE GRSS Highest Impact Paper Award (2025), the MIT Technology Review “AI100” (2025), the MIT Technology Review “China’s Intelligent Computing Innovators” Award (2024, AI for Earth Science), the IEEE GRSS Early Career Award (2022), the Best Reviewer Awards of IEEE TGRS (2021, 2022) and IEEE JSTARS (2022), the José Bioucas Dias Award (2021) and Paul Gader Award (2024) at WHISPERS, the Remote Sensing Young Investigator Award (2022), recognition as a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher (2022-2025).
