About us
The dance group has been running since 2013. It was initially set up by Activity Sheffield in Sheffield City Council but taken over by parents, who renamed it Dancestars in 2016, when the council could no longer fund it.
Our group has no age restrictions and we have a range of abilities within the group. Siblings are welcome. Parents and carers usually stay in the room while the group are dancing.
We dance every Monday during term-time and often in the school holidays if the venue is open but please contact us first to find out.
We are grateful to South Yorkshire's Community Foundation for the funding they awarded us in 2017 and 2020.
Our dance teacher is Carly Winter. She has been teaching dance for 14 years and worked with a range of children with special educational needs and disabilities. She teaches dance at Seven Hills special school, and has taught at Rowan School and Mossbrook special school. Carly also works at Ecco Dance and Performing Arts School.
What the parents say:
... a friendship group has developed and they get to improve their dancing talent.
... I always laugh a lot and get useful information from the other parents and carers.
... it's great to see the kids enjoying themselves and keeping fit.
... they are really happy and engaged.
... I learn a lot from the other parents and it gets my daughter out socialising.
