EWS WINSON

Life

EWS Winson is a line dancer from Malaysia. He was born in Malacca in 1993. He studied at SJK(C) Pay Teck (2000 - 2005) and Catholic High School (2006 - 2010). He is now an English Language teacher who is currently working in Pasir Gudang, Johor.

Career

Winson has always aspired to be a teacher when he grows up. Lo and behold, he has finally made it! In 2011, he received an interview and successfully enrolled in the International Languages Campus Teachers Training Institute. He pursued his degree course (TESL - Teaching English as a Second Language) there for five and a half years.

Being an English teacher is a Herculean task for Winson as he does not come from an affluent English-medium background. On top of that, he studied in the vernacular Chinese school where Mandarin was the medium of instruction during his schooling years. However, Winson foresees the essential and importance of English as a drive for his future development. He then takes his guts to acquire and enhance his English Language skills by consulting his teachers and friends. His enthusiasm and modesty in learning makes him who he is today.

Winson received his first posting in SJKC Masai, Johor on 23 January 2017. He was very lucky to be invited as a speaker to give some workshops on marking schemes, language acquisition and 21st century teaching-learning techniques. On 3 March 2021, Winson had transferred to a new school (SJKC Ladang Grisek) to continue imparting wisdom and knowledge to the pupils.

Winson would like to take this platform to extend his heartfelt appreciation to his teachers, lecturers, tutors, friends and parents who have nurtured and motivated him throughout his learning path. He has completed his Master's degree in TESL in 2022. On top of that, Winson has published a few journal articles on the international publications. He also launched his new book entitled 'Grammar Pastime' in 2022.

Dance

Winson embarked on his journey as a line dancer since 2003, where he was only 10 years old. He was influenced by his mother, who was back then looking for a male personality in a dance performance. Soon, the dance moves and music caught his attention. He gradually developed his passion further into choreography and giving workshops.

In 2006, Winson began sharing dances with the local people. Not long after, he grasped some tips on choreography. Besides, in 2011, he took part in an open-dance competition in Malacca but he did not get through it. Nevertheless, it was a blessing in disguise as he managed to enter the final round. On another note, this does not impede his passion and determination in the pursuit of line dancing.

In 2014, Winson was blessed to have given the opportunity to deliver mini workshops in Malaysia and Singapore. He is immensely grateful to the people who have given him unwavering support, courage and faith.

Among some popular dances which Winson has choreographed are Cha Cha With My Heart, Cinderella, Love Back Around, Awella, Ride The Beat, Dancing Stranger, Love Our Mama, Run Run Runaway and Prometeme Samba (Promise Me) to name a few.

In 2015, Party Reminiscence had been selected as another competition dance for 'Champ of the Champ Competition'  held in Malacca.
