Spectator tickets will be sold at the venue entrance (Main Gym) day-of (cash or Venmo accepted).

We are hosting a food drive during the event! Bring two canned food items to receive a discounted ticket.

General admission: $10
With 2 donated cans: $5
UCSD students with ID: $5
UCSD students with ID + 2 cans: FREE

💃 When to Watch

Events will run all day Saturday and Sunday in UCSD's Main Gym.

Daytime competition: 8:30 AM – ~4:00 PM (both days)
Saturday Evening Session (5:00 PM – 10:00 PM)
- - The night session is perfect for first-time spectators! Enjoy colorful lighting, a professional showcase, and high-level open competition.

Applause and cheering are encouraged — clap, yell, and call out your favorite couple’s number! We also invite you to play “judge” and see how your picks compare with the official results.

Bleacher seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Food will be available for purchase outside the gym throughout the day for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

🌊 About Dance By The Shores

Dance By The Shores is a student-run amateur Ballroom and Latin Dance competition hosted annually by the UC San Diego Dancesport Team, a competitive Ballroom and Latin dance team dedicated to fostering an inclusive, welcoming community. We provide opportunities for dancers of all experience levels to develop technical, social, and competitive dance skills.

All UCSD students are welcome to join at any practice throughout the year — no partner or prior experience required! Most members start with little to no dance background. The team is not currently open to non-UCSD members.

Our primary focus is International Style Ballroom and Latin, including:

Latin: Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble, Jive
Standard: Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Quickstep, Viennese Waltz

We also learn social (“Nightclub”) dances such as Salsa, Bachata, West Coast Swing, Hustle, and more, with additional opportunities to train in American Smooth and Rhythm.
