I have been the school nurse at Dana MS since joining LAUSD in the fall of 2022. Previously, I was a nurse leader on a telemetry/step-down unit at Providence in Torrance, a camp nurse, and a school nurse in Thailand. In addition to caring for students in the Health Office, I am a CPR instructor with the American Heart Association. I completed my school nurse credential at CSU Fullerton and am an active member of the National Association for School Nurses (NASN) and California School Nurses Organization (CSNO).
School nursing is much more than bandaids and ice packs! We promote student attendance and limit health-related barriers to learning. I serve as a member of a multidisciplinary team established to meet the health and educational needs of all LAUSD students.
Credentialed school nurses assume a variety of important roles for students and staff:
Primary health care provider
Emergency care provider
Case manager or coordinator
Child advocate
Health educator
Counselor
Suspected child abuse reporter
Contagious disease nurse
Vaccine compliance advocate
Hearing screener
Vision screener
Disability prevention advocate
Trainer and supervisor of unlicensed personnel who provide Specialized Physical Health Care Services.
Messenger to guardian about health-related issues
Medical record keeper

Communicable Disease Policy: Please keep your student home if they have a fever over 100.3F, vomiting, diarrhea, severe pain, or labored breathing. Students may return to school once they are fever-free without medication (ie Motrin or Tylenol) for 24 hours.
