MIME - MIOCENE MIGRATIONS IN THE MEDITERRANEAN – Mollusc and fish migrations in the dynamic environments of the early to middle Miocene in the Mediterranean
This project (2020-2021) focused on the description of the taxonomic diversity of mollusks and fish in the eastern Mediterranean through the study of fossiliferous localities in NW Greece.
We analyzed the mollusc and fish faunas of Early Miocene localities of the Mesohellenic Basin (NW Greece). The goal was to compare the faunas at the taxonomic level and with adjacent basins/bioprovinces in order to identify any migration trends. Additionally, the respective environments were analyzed with regard to the continuity of the coastal paleoenvironments.
New species of endemic fish were described.
This project was carried out at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (Greece), it was part of my doctoral research and contributed to the completion of my PhD project.
