This week, I created and concepted ideas for the project, and established parameters in my Statement Of Intent. I also set out to establish what exactly would feature in my mod, and how I could go about creating the desired systems.
Statement Of Intent
Project Outline:
Rimworld Mod adding content from the series Attack On Titan. Demonstrating skills as a designer; I can get “stuck into” a project with existing code and functionality, and be able to create my own cohesively designed and functional systems from it.
Stretch goals:
Additional Particle effects (smoke and steam trails), custom apparel (cloaks that give stat boots), multiple titan designs (hair, facial features that match human designs etc).
Rationale:
When deciding what to create for a personal project, I realised that I have always wanted to create a Mod, to take existing features of a game and repurpose and create something new from them. With this project, I aim to do this in a way that creates a plethora of new gameplay options for a RimWorld player
Project specifics:
I am adding new creatures, weapons and systems modelled after elements from Attack On Titans, such as Titans and Anti-Titan Weaponry. List of features: Titans (Creatures), Subjects Of Ymir (Health Condition), Titan Walls (Terrain), Anti-Titan Cannons (Mortar Variant), Titan Serum (Resource/ System), ODM gear (Weapon/ System), a Gas System (Resource/ System) and animated cables with working SFX (System).
Key indicators:
The functionality of the Mod features, ability to develop personal skillset (Does it work, have I learned enough about something new to make a functional project?)
Integration of Features in vanilla (Does it make sense for RimWorld, is it well designed to accommodate for the rest of the game?)
Art (Does it match the artstyle?) - Most likely to be outsourced if possible.
Style and reference:
Rimworlds artstyle is a very simple one, but one that will be strived to be maintained within the mod.
This is my Statement Of Intent, a brief overview of the project and an outline of the causes and reasoning behind my choosing to create this as a project. I will, in the coming week, go into further detail with each individual asset for the mod, begin researching how to create said mod, and attempt to create a test mod.
