You can find information about out PhD program, including a link to the recording of a webinar for potential students here PhD in Decision Sciences and Engineering Systems. More information on how to apply is available in Masters and PhD applicants.
Please do not send me a generic email stating your interest in our PhD program. I will not reply to generic emails, especially if you are essentially sending the same email to all the faculty at our department - this will weaken your application.
If you would like to work on a topic related to optimization, but you do not know the exact topic you want to focus on: this is fine, but please directly apply to our PhD program using the links provided above. In your statement of purpose you can write the names of the faculty you think would be a good match for you based on your research interests. Rest assure that we will look at your application very carefully and, if accepted to our program*, we will find a research topic for you!
On the other hand, if you have a specific research topic in mind, please send me an email with a summary of your project idea; try to be as clear as possible and explain how the idea relates to my research interests and why you would like to work on that topic. For instance, if you read one of my papers and in the email you propose an extension of results in the paper that you are interested to work on, I am happy to setup an online meeting to discuss it and see if we can work together and to answer any questions you may have.
*Note that the decision on acceptance to our program is taken by the PhD program committee, so it does not depend on me or any particular faculty.
