We recognize that our group is made up of a diverse group of people whose commonality is the priority of homeschooling our children. However, we are a faith-based, Christian homeschool co-op and want to ensure that everyone who participates can agree to a common set of beliefs. We will focus on our commonly held biblical beliefs that are agreed upon among Christian denominations (e.g. salvation through Christ alone), and we will avoid unhelpful debates on non-essential or denominational differences (e.g. baptism, communion).
We believe the 66 books of the Bible, the Old and New Testaments, to be the only inspired, trustworthy and true, without error, Word of God. Accordingly, we also believe the following:
The Gospel is the good news of God’s saving actions towards sinners through Jesus Christ, who, as the eternal son of God, took on human nature, lived a sinless life, and died a substitutionary death for sinners.
Salvation is a free gift that comes only by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ. Anyone who turns from their sin and trusts in Jesus Christ and His death on their behalf receives forgiveness of sins and the gift of eternal life.
God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as a male or female (Psalm 139:13-16). These two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God (Genesis 1:26-27). Rejection of one’s biological sex is a rejection of God’s design of the image of God within that person.
Marriage is ordained by God as a covenantal union between one genetic male and one genetic female, established at creation and affirmed by the Lord Jesus and his apostles (Genesis 1:26-28, 2:15-25, Matthew 19:4-6, Colossians 3:18-22, Hebrews 13:4).
In addition, we have chosen the Apostle's Creed (below), which has served the church throughout the ages, to be part of our statement of faith. All of our class offerings will be from a biblical, gospel-centered worldview that holds to our belief in the authority of the Bible and the truths of the Apostle’s Creed.
I believe in God the Father Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth;
And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord:
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried;
the third day he rose from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence he shall come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic* church, *(universal)
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
