A little bit about me is that there are four people in my family. My brother, Korbin is seven years old and in first grade this year. Some of Korbin’s favorite things to do are play pool against me, playing with Legos, or golfing. My dad, Roger, works at Koch and Company and my mom, Shelly, teaches preschool at the elementary school at Nemaha Central. As a family, we like to go golfing and watch movies. My dad has eight brothers and sisters while my mom only has two. During the holidays, it is quite interesting to go from a small family event to a big one and see the differences between each of our families.
The type of student that I am is one who does the best I can do in order to keep good grades and a good GPA. A good GPA and grades can help me get academic scholarships and allow me to start my adult life on the right path. I am a four-sport athlete in high school and participate in football, basketball, golf, and track. I enjoy playing sports, and I am a very competitive person.
After this year, I plan on going to a university or a community college. I’m not sure what college I would like to attend yet, but I have narrowed it down to a couple. I have applied to Kansas State University and have been accepted. This college was one of my choices because this is where my parents went to college, and this is the collegiate team we root for. I plan on studying business administration in college and focus on accounting or sales management.
When I was younger, my dad, a high school math teacher, would always ask me math questions such as 10 multiplied by 200 or even 500 multiplied by 300. Now as a six-year-old I had no idea how to begin to work this problem but I still thought about it for a little bit and gave my answer. When he told me the answer to each problem I was in shock. My guess was not even close to the answer in which he had said and so I asked him how he figured it out. Instantly this sparked an interest in math and numbers for me.
In middle school and the beginning of high school, I embraced my love of numbers and needed to research a job that sparked my interest and also had numbers involved, so I began to research and eventually saw what an actuary and what an accountant entailed. I’ve always had a love for numbers and I felt that both of these suited that.
I realized that these two jobs were exactly what I wanted to pursue as a future career. Throughout my high school life, I tried to continue to gain more knowledge about what exactly and accountant or actuary does. I tried to take as many math and business classes, such as calculus, accounting, and entrepreneurship, and get a jump start on some classes that I would be taking in college. Along with taking classes, I’ve job shadowed the head accountant at two different companies.
One of the things that I like to do in my free time is to hunt and fish. I love getting outside and both of these take skills to do. While hunting, I think it is very interesting to see the different things that animals do in order to communicate. I also find it amazing that some animals have such a great sense of smell or sight compared to humans. I also like to golf in my free time because I find it relaxing and very enjoyable.
