D A L O Y ( pronounced : DAH-loy )
A Tagalog word means flow, a movement, a current of emotion and energy. It symbolizes layers, transformation, and the ongoing journey of resilience and self-discovery.
It evokes motion, depth, and the quiet power that flows through each artwork, just like life itself - sometimes calm, sometimes intense, always evolving.

DALOY is a space where emotion and abstract form meet - a reflection of the quiet power of women and the beauty that emerges from life's layers.
Each piece is created through layered textures and intuitive movement-embracing tension, release, and healing as part of the process. What begins as weight and silence slowly evolves into strength, presence, and depth.
DALOY exists to honour the quiet power of women, to remind us that softness and strength can coexist, and that beauty can rise even from the most difficult experiences.
Every artwork is a reflection of survival, growth, and reclaimed voice.

Artist Statement

I am Lilibeth Mercado, the artist and founder of D A L O Y. My journey into art began as a survivor of domestic violence and a single mother seeking healing and self-expression. I discovered acrylic and texture art through a creative arts programme with the Adanna Women Support Group in Ilford, Essex where art became a space for freedom, curiosity, and growth.

I am at the early stages of my artistic practice, exploring acrylics, texture, and layered surfaces as ways to communicate emotion and lived experience. Each piece represents a moment of learning and experimentation, allowing me to build confidence, understand materials, and develop my creative voice over time.
D A L O Y is my evolving creative platform, centred on learning, wellbeing, and community. Through continued exploration and shared creative spaces, I aim to grow as an artist while encouraging others to discover the therapeutic power of art.

Learning Goals & Practice Development

As a beginner artist, my focus is on growth, curiosity, and skill development.

My current learning goals include :

Developing acrylic painting techniques and textured surfaces
Experimenting with new materials, tools, and methods
Building consistency and confidence through regular practice
Learning through workshops, mentorship, and community art spaces
Developing a personal visual language rooted in emotions and healing

D A L O Y is a community-focused creative platform that supports wellbeing, learning, and empowerment through art. As my practice continues to develop, I aim to create accessible spaces for creative exploration, particularly for individuals affected by trauma or social isolation.
Through workshops, collaborative project, and exhibitions, D A L O Y encourages connection, confidence, and shared creative growth. The platform reflects my belief that creativity can be powerful tool for healing, self-discovery, and community wellbeing.
