Our Mission
Our Mission
Hawkeye Service Teams at the University of Iowa are dedicated to promoting service learning, social justice, and community building to the students at the University of Iowa. Groups of students are led by a staff and student leader and spend a semester learning about disparities, reflecting on the communities around them and themselves, as well focusing on the topics that their respective group will be tackling. The groups are then able to apply this knowledge and experience their topics first hand when taken on an alternative break that occurs in the spring.

This year, student traveling to Dallas were focused on the topic of Public Health. In class, students learned about becoming an active citizen, defining communities, understanding simple living, learning about an asset based community development mindset, as well as taking pre-service opportunities. When in Dallas students were able to experience and learn from amazing organizations such as the Dallas County Health and Human Services, Boys and Girl's Club, Divinekinship, AIDS Interface Network, and even have the chance to sit down with Hawkeye Alums in Dallas.
